Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said during a second press conference that the shooter was from Utica and warrants have been obtained for his home and a pair of vehicles. He also said the gunman had two hostages in a wooded area that were not harmed

The last radio transmission from Disario informed dispatch that he had the gunman in his sights. When backup units arrived, they found Disario’s body in the street Fox News reported.

Disario had six children and another baby on the way, Thorpe said.

Thorpe set another news conference for later Friday afternoon.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich released a statement:

“Ohio mourns the loss of Kirkersville Chief Eric Disario, who died in the line of duty,” he said. “Join me in praying for his family, friends and colleagues, and for the others injured in this tragedy. Blessed are the peacemakers for they be called children of God.”

Witness Jeffrey Griffin said he heard the gunshots while dropping his kids off at a babysitter’s house. He said people “took off running” from the Pine Kirk Care Center, and he was “pretty stunned.”
