Rather than governing his state to the best of his ability and making choices that reflect what is best for the state of California, what exactly has Gov. Jerry Brown been doing?

The same thing he’s been doing for decades — obstructing progress.  California has been so busy defying President Donald Trump in order to protect illegal aliens from deportation that it forgot to do the things the government is supposed to do, like maintain infrastructure. Governor Brown is now going hat-in-hand to beg the Trump administration for emergency funds.

California was previously allotted funds under Water Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014, also known as CA Prop 1 (2014). Among other items listed for the bill to cover, this bill allotted $2.7 billion for water storage projects, dams, and reservoirs as well as $7.12 billion in general obligation bonds for state water supply infrastructure projects, such as public water system improvements, surface and groundwater storage, drinking water protection, water recycling and advanced water treatment technology, water supply management and conveyance, wastewater treatment, drought relief, emergency water supplies, and ecosystem and watershed protection and restoration.Image result for california infrastructure issues

Yet somehow the Oroville dam still has a massive hole threatening to flood the populace of California and roadways are still crumbling, regularly giving way when faced with too much rain.

In addition to the federal tax dollars received from the Trump administration and tax collection increasing by 50% over the last 9 years, California’s $122.8 billion General Fund Budget is in deficit by $1.6 billion. Despite a near bankruptcy during the financial crisis in 2008-2009, California’s tax revenues have actually increased by about $43 billion in the last 9 years.

As a result, California Gov. Jerry Brown has proposed the wildly unpopular 42% increase in gasoline taxes and a 141% increase in vehicle registration fees.

All of this money and literally nothing to show for it other than threats of succession, dozens of sanctuary cities and counties, funding and supporting illegals, welfare expansion, health care for all including illegals, and unsustainable pensions.

Gov. Brown has defied President Trump and his administration at every turn with the city of San Fransisco even going so far as to pass legislation penalizing companies that agree to contract with the Trump administration for work on the wall to be built on the border of Mexico and the U.S.  Yet for all that defiance, now Gov. Brown needs something and the first thing he does is come with his hand out.  After squandering money as though it grows in the backyard, he expects the American people to bail his state out and cover his poor decisions and that of previous administrations.

According to the Cato Institute, California is ranked the 49th most free state in the nation, meaning the only state LESS free than California is New York.  That translates to being one of the highest-taxed states in the country. California’s combined state and local tax collections are 10.8% of personal income with state taxes well above average.  Government debt is insanely high coming in at 22.8%. Government debt is high, at 22.8 percent.  If we ran our households like this?  We would be in a heap of trouble.

Perhaps it is time for California to start managing their own issues. You do indeed eventually run out of other people’s money and frankly, I think it is high time that the state of California found that out.  Yet here we are again, bailing them out of their bad decisions.
