A quadruple shooting claimed the lives of two boys and their mother in New Orleans and left a third child in critical condition at University Medical Center.

Authorities have yet to name a suspect or possible motive for the shootings, reported.

Officials arriving on the scene at 4:15 a.m. first found A’Miya Smith, 12, and rushed her to University Medical Center, where she remained Sunday under police guard.

A’Miya’s grandmother, Debra Smith, told WDSU that A’miya had been shot in the face.

A further search of the home uncovered three more bodies, those of Smith and her two sons. All three had been shot more than once and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Family and the Orleans Parish Coroner identified the deceased as Monique Smith, 30; Justin Simms, 10; and Jumyrin Smith, 6.

“Every murder breaks a heart,” NOPD Chief Michael Harrison told reporters. “But to find that children were involved…it really rattles everybody.”

A longtime resident who did not want her name used said the family moved into the neighborhood a year or two ago. She said she used to see a man and a woman having barbecues, and kids playing with their dogs in the yard. But seven or eight months ago, the adults appeared to vanish, she said. She first thought they moved, but she would occasionally see TV lights flashing in the upstairs windows, or the two young boys waiting for the school bus.

A relative said Monique was separated from her husband, and Debra Smith told WDSU the husband had hit Monique.

“He told me that he did,” Smith said. “That he put his hands on her.”

Authorities haven’t said whether Smith’s husband, who is believed to be living in Mississippi, is a person of interest in the case, Fox News reports.

“It’s sad,” a neighbor told “The family seemed like they were real peaceful. The children seemed happy. But it’s just New Orleans. You never know.”

Crimestoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for this shooting. Anyone with information should call the agency at 504-822-1111.

Let’s hope this murderer is apprehended before more innocent people are killed.

Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this tragedy. Such a beautiful family.

So sad…
