BREAKING: Red Cross JUST Embroiled In MASSIVE SCANDAL… You Will NEVER Donate There Again!

The Red Cross has been caught red-handed in yet another scandal related to fraud and waste of resources.  It has been discovered that the group either wasted or outright stole AT LEAST some $6 million in donations that were intended to fight the deadly Ebola epidemic raging through West Africa.

This discovery follows an internal investigation into how the organization mishandled more than $124 million during the 2014-2016 epidemic that killed more than 11,000 people in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. The disease initially erupted in Guinea and spread like wildfire across Sierra Leone and Liberia.  International aid response was slow to assist allowing the outbreak to reach epidemic proportions. As a result, there was a rush to disperse money quickly, usually as soon as it was received in an effort to get supplies and aid workers in the field.

It has been revealed that as much as $2.13 million has disappeared due to what is believed to have been collusion between the Red Cross and the Sierra Leonean bank. The money is believed to have been lost as a result of improperly fixing the exchange rate during the height of the epidemic.

The Red Cross is expressing its “outrage” at this discovery and vowing to strengthen efforts to fight corruption as well as introduce cash spending limits in what they term “high-risk settings.” The organization is vowing to put in place trained auditors to oversee all emergency operations teams.  What the plan does not reveal is just how much more money will be eaten up to pay for these “trained auditors” that is not going for the purpose intended by those that donate to the Red Cross.

The  International Federation of the Red Cross undersecretary general,  Dr. Jemilah Mahmood states of the situation –

“These cases must not in any way diminish the tremendous courage and dedication of thousands of volunteers and staff during the Ebola response. They played a critical and widely recognized role in containing and ending the outbreak, and preventing further spread of the Ebola virus internationally.

We are pursuing every possible avenue to reclaim all funds that have been misappropriated, diverted, or otherwise illegally taken. This includes working with authorities in affected countries and elsewhere as appropriate.”

The Red Cross is claiming that they are working closely with  Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission in an effort to “investigate and legally pursue any persons involved.”

The investigation also revealed significant evidence of fraud in both Liberia and in Guinea.  In Liberia, the loss is estimated to be at over $2.7 million due to inflated prices and price gouging of relief items, abuse of payroll, and fraudulent payment of volunteer incentives. Fraud in Guinea is estimated to be more than $1.17 million or more and stemmed from fraudulent billing practices by customs clearance service providers.  There are still two pending and ongoing investigations which may reveal even larger losses than first reported.
