Director Of Secret Service To Step Aside In March

The Director of Joseph P. Clancey has announced his upcoming retirement in March enabling President Trump to select his own choice for the position.

Clancey, who spent his early years in Philadelphia has been with the agency since 1984 working from his home town.

He rose through the ranks, and following the repeated controversies the agencies experienced during the Obama administration, culminating in the dramatic scaling of the White House fence by a veteran armed with a combat knifeformer President Obama asked him to step into the role of director on an interim basis–the other director at the time, Julia Pierson, resigned in disgrace.

He was later appointed officially to the role the following year.

The Secret Service is perhaps the only agency that fails to receive the proper credit for all that they do.  Founded in the mid 19th century, an agency first tasked to handle counterfeit currency has developed into an integral part of the Department of Homeland Security and are most widely known today for their role in defending the lives of the highest-ranked members of our republic.  Clancey, respect and loved by all of his subordinates will be dearly missed but shared words of optimism for his colleagues:

In his letter to Secret Service staff, Clancy said he can assure them that “better days are ahead for this Agency with new leadership at the Director’s position” and that he could not be “more impressed, more grateful and more proud of all of you.”

The Secret Service employs 7,000 agents across the country. They work tirelessly to protect your Commander-In-Chief and besides for some bad seed — everyone has them — they are the most non-partisan agency of all. That’s something that (following recent events) we can all appreciate.

Take a moment a read the full statement from the Secret Service, an excerpt is provided below:

Mr. Clancy, a native Philadelphian, began his career in 1984, in the agency’s Philadelphia Field Office. His other assignments included the New York Field Office, Office of Congressional Affairs, Inspection Division and the Presidential Protective Division, where he served as the Special Agent in Charge. Mr. Clancy retired from the Secret Service in 2011 and worked in the private sector for three years. In October 2014, the Obama Administration asked him to accept the position of Acting Director on an interim basis. In February 2015, President Obama appointed him as the 24th Director of the Secret Service.
