Sheriff MURDERED- Please Send Your Prayers [W/VIDEOS]

MARION COUNTY, Ind. – An Indiana sheriff’s deputy was brutally beaten on Monday while he was returning an inmate to the Marion County jail in Indianapolis after a hospital visit.

The inmate identified as Orlando Mitchell attacked the Marion County Sheriff’s deputy inside the detention center’s sally port in Indianapolis.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy John Durm, 61, passed away at Eskenazi Hospital as a result of the attack, according to Sheriff Kerry Forestal.

After assaulting Deputy Durm, Mitchell stole the transport van and subsequently crashed it into a utility pole.

Other deputies swiftly apprehended him.

The inmate is currently in stable condition at Eskenazi Hospital, Breaking 911 reports.

Durm, 61, had been with the sheriff’s department for nearly 40 years, Marion County Sheriff Kerry Forestal told reporters, FOX reports.

Durm’s wife and son also work for the department, he said.

Authorities said Durm will be given the honors he deserves as a “fallen hero.”

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (IN) posted on their Facebook page:

“It is with deep sadness that we must report that the Deputy initially involved in the altercation with an inmate has passed away from his injuries.

Deputy John Durm faithfully served the people of Marion County as a Deputy Sheriff for almost four decades.

In that time, he set himself apart as an honorable and faithful public servant.

But he was more than that.

He was a husband, a father, and a friend.

Our hearts are broken for his wife, Ramona, also a dedicated Deputy here at the MCSO, and his children who have continued his legacy of service.”

Mitchell will be arrested on suspicion of homicide once he is released from the hospital, police said. He was already in jail on a murder charge for allegedly killing his son’s mother outside a daycare last year, FOX 59 reported.

“The investigation at this point shows clearly that this was an intentional act of homicide,” said IMPD Assistant Chief of Police Chris Bailey.

In a statement, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said the “city grieves the tragic loss of Marion County Deputy John Durm. We will be forever grateful for his service to the Indianapolis community.”

Prayers and condolences to the family, friends and IMPD for the loss of Deputy John Durham.

May Deputy Durham Rest in Heavenly Peace.
