One person is dead and five others, including two children, have been injured in Sanford, Florida after a shooting took place early Monday morning.

Sanford police spokeswoman Bianca Gillet told local news outlets that four people were shot in a house after what appeared to be a domestic violence incident. Two bystanders were also shot in another location in Sanford.

The children shot, ages 7 and 8, are in critical condition.

Gillet went on to say that a police officer heard shots at a second location and was able to capture the suspect as well as a weapon.

According to police, the suspect has been identified as Allen D. Cashe, Fox 35 reports.

The woman and the gunman were arguing at a gas station over property, and the woman approached a police officer about it, Gillett said.

The officer settled them down, but sometime later an officer was called to the home in Sanford, where the argument had flared up again. While there, the woman, who wasn’t immediately identified, gave the officer a bag of possessions, which included a firearm. The argument quieted down and the officer left, but the suspect killed the woman shortly afterwards, Gillett said.

The gunman also allegedly shot the woman’s two sons and their grandfather, then went to a nearby street and shot two innocent bystanders, including a high school student waiting for a bus, Fox reports.

An officer heard the shots at the second scene, caught the suspect and found a weapon, according to police.

Dominique Smith told The Orlando Sentinel she was waiting for a school bus with three classmates when the man shot bystanders. Smith said she first noticed the man dressed in all black and then realized he had a gun before he started running and everyone scattered.

“I seen all this,” Smith told the newspaper. “I don’t even feel safe right now.”

The boys and grandfather were in critical condition, and the bystanders were in stable condition, Gillett added.

A spokeswoman for the Sanford Police Department called the shooting scene one of the most horrific officers have ever seen.

The children were airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando and remain in critical condition. Their grandfather was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital with critical injuries.

The two innocent bystanders were also taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital.
Seminole County Public Schools Superintendent Walt Griffin issued a statement about the shooting, saying three of the victims are students.

“I am saddened to hear of the domestic violence related shooting that took place in Sanford this morning. It appears that three of the victims attend Seminole County Schools. We are working with both the Sanford Police Department and Seminole County Sheriff’s Department to determine the students’ names and schools. Grief Counselors will be availabe at all affected schools’ tomorrow. Our hearts go out to the families of these young and innocent children.”

Sanford is about 20 miles northeast of Orlando.

God bless.
