SCHOOL SHOOTING IN LIBERAL CITY
SEATTLE — Seattle police were on scene of a shooting at a north Seattle high school this morning. The call came in around 9:00 a.m. local time.
“There was gunfire reported at Ingraham High School this morning. One student is believed to have been shot,” the school district said in a statement. “The campus is currently on lockdown. Seattle Police are on the scene and working with the district’s Safety and Security team.”
“The campus is secure at this time,” the district added. “The school remains in lockdown. No students are being released at this time.”
Students inside the Seattle high school described a terrifying and chaotic scene.
Ingraham High School students described hearing ‘seven super loud bangs,’ hiding in dark closets as they heard ‘everyone screaming,’ and frantically texting their parents when the school was plunged into lockdown as authorities hunted for the gunman, Daily Mail reports.
Student Zack McCarthy told KOMO News that he was playing Ode to Joy on the piano in his music class when he heard shots break out.

”We hear, like, seven super loud bangs, and at first we think it’s like the locker, right? Because no one thinks the school’s going to get shot up. Then the teacher runs over and she’s like, nah we gotta close the door, so then everyone starts freaking out.”
”We heard screaming, and people were screaming that there was a gun and stuff, it was super scary.”
A male suspect was apprehended onboard a bus near the school about an hour after the shooting. Police said they found a gun in his backpack.

The male suspect found an hour after police were called when officers searched the area, said Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz.
Witnesses said the suspect was arrested at a bus stop nearby as dozens of heavily-armed officers swarmed the area. He did not resist the arrest.
After school was secured students were released and met by parents who cheered at a nearby reunification site.
Medics transported the victim to a local Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Like we said, unfortunately the student was killed in the shooting, which authorities suspect was a targeted attack, rather than a random act of violence.
Our sincere and deepest condolences go out to the family as well as the students and community.
