John Russell Houser, the man who shot up a movie theater in Lafayette resulting in 3 dead is said to have been a supporter of the Westboro Baptist Church from recent postings on social media. I personally know many people from the Cajun state and they are peaceful people for the most part. On the other hand people can only take so much before they push back and I fear in the end this may be one of those situations.

As news of the tragedy broke, the hateful church posted the video below on its Twitter account. A following message, which retweeted an Associated Press tweet, added the hashtag “#MustPicket.” Similar hashtags appeared as more and more developments came out in the shooting.

The “church,” which has made its name by protesting the funerals of fallen soldiers and victims of tragedies — claiming the deaths are God’s vengeance for America’s acceptance of homosexuality in society — has proven time and again that no tragedy is safe from the group’s vile opinions.

They probably want a violent confrontation so they can receive more attention and media coverage. As tempting as it is to beat these hate mongers up, I suggest people organize their own peaceful protest with signs like (these are only suggestions) my God is a God of love. As hard as that would be to do, it would take the air out of the sails of this cult parading around claiming to be righteous. In the past they have brought lawsuits against those who used a violent approach.
