A Massachusetts woman won a $200 lottery scratcher ticket and made the decision to spend it on something that most people wouldn’t- a homeless man.

Her awesome act of kindness brought the homeless man to tears.

Sofia Andrade was at a stop sign in New Bedford when she noticed a homeless man with a sign asking for money, WCVB reported. Ms. Andrade decided to do something to help the poor guy out.

The homeless man’s name is Glenn Williams and has been homeless for three years.

Ms. Andrade called Williams over to her car and took him to a Dunkin Donuts coffee shop. “He was so overwhelmed by just the generosity of a coffee that he just couldn’t stop crying,” she said.

Ms. Andrade asked Williams where he would be sleeping that night and he told her that he really didn’t know. So she tried calling all the local shelters but was told that there was no bed space for the homeless man.

It was then that she decided to use her lottery winnings to put Williams in a nice hotel room for 2 nights!

“I knew that the money never really belonged to me,” Ms. Andrade said. “This money was meant to help him.”

Williams was so grateful for this awesome act of generosity saying, “I couldn’t believe there’s somebody like her. She deserves a lot of the credit for where I am right now.”

But Ms. Andrade didn’t stop there. Opposing Views reports that she took to Facebook to raise awareness of Williams’s story and started a GoFundMe page. The Facebook post went viral and the GoFundMe page has already raised over $11,000! Several locals found other ways to help Williams. A local barber offered to cut Williams’s hair. Others donated warm clothes!

Awesome!

“There’s a lot of good people in this world,” said Williams. “I’m overwhelmed with all the help, and I just want to thank everybody.”

Here is her Facebook post in it’s entirety:

Tonight i won $200 on a scratch ticket..I was so excited until i looked up and met Glenn. He was holding a homeless sign his hands shook and he was crying as the negative degree wind whipped his face. I rolled down my window and offered to buy him coffee which he was hesitant but grateful to accept. As we drove to Dunkin’s I asked him where he was going to sleep he said he didn’t know so on the way I called the local and other homeless shelters within a 10 mile area…no spots. It was then i knew why i won the $200, God placed Glenn in my path for a reason, so I drove him to the Rosewood Inn in Wareham and paid for a 2 night stay.
I’ve never seen a grown man cry he began praying and telling me I was angel. If anyone was an extra warm outfit or warm leftovers and want to donate to him hes in room 16. I know how grateful he would be. As you lay down snuggled up in warmth just remember how lucky you are bc with the wind chill its in the negatives. So tonight I know my new friend Glenn is warm…

Absolutely wonderful. Break out the hanky’s folks. God bless this awesome young lady for taking care of a man in need.

And yes, you are definitely an angel.

We hope you patriots enjoyed this touching story and maybe this will inspire some of you to lend a helping hand to those that are down.

God Bless.
