CBP Officers from the Pharr International Bridge Seize Nearly Half a Million in Cocaine on the Same Day

 PHARR, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Pharr International Bridge seized $483,820 worth of alleged cocaine in separate, unrelated incidents at the Pharr International Bridge.

“Our officers have prevented a significant amount of hard narcotics from getting to their intended destination, ever vigilant in upholding the CBP mission,” said Interim Port Director Donna Sifford, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On Tuesday, Oct. 24, CBP officers encountered a 26-year-old female driver and a 28-year-old passenger, both Mexican citizens, from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico in a blue 2007 Dodge Caliber. The vehicle was referred for further inspection and with the assistance of a canine team and the use of a non-intrusive imagining inspection (NII), CBP officers discovered 15 packages containing a total of 38.27 pounds of alleged cocaine within the vehicle. The alleged narcotics have an estimated street value of $295,120.

The second incident occurred on the same day after CBP officers referred a grey 2008 Chrysler Sebring to secondary for inspection. The vehicle was driven by a 30-year-old male United States citizen from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. After a physical inspection of the vehicle, the use of a non-intrusive imaging inspection (NII)and the assistance of a canine team, officers discovered 10 packages allegedly containing approximately 24.47 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $188,700.

CBP OFO seized the narcotics along with the vehicles, arrested the drivers and passenger, and turned them over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
