Howard ‘Howie’ Rubin stands accused of running a human trafficking ring, violent rape, and assault in a $27 million dollar lawsuit filed by three Florida models recently.  62-year-old Rubin is the former manager of George Soros’ investment funds working for him from 2008 until 2015.

According to the lawsuit filed by Attorney John Balestriere of Balestriere Fariello, Rubin sexually assaulted three different women, at an $8 million Manhattan Towers penthouse located in Manhattan in 2016.  The penthouse is said to house a secret “dungeon” of sorts with all manner of sex toys, ropes, chains, and BDSM equipment and paraphilia.  He is accused of attacking one of his victims with a cattle prod, amongst other gruesome acts.

The women claim in the lawsuit that Rubin and his associates lured them to New York for modeling work on JetBlue flights after contacting them on the social media platform Instagram. Balestriere writes in the complaint Rubin’s associates sought to “cover up Rubin’s sexual misconduct and criminal abuse of women and to serve as a cover for his wide-ranging human trafficking scheme.”

Once they arrived in Manhattan they were then drugged, bound and gagged, and then they were violently beaten.  One woman details how Rubin hit her so hard it caused her to blackout as he demanded that she call him “Daddy” over and over again and also stating – “Howie is the daddy. The daddy has to beat his baby.” Two of the women state that he warned them, “I’m going to rape you like I rape my daughter.” He then proceeded to attack them beating and punching them.

The lawsuit then details how Rubin attempted to cover up the rapes and the violent attacks with hush money paying them between $2,000 and $5,000 a session.  The allegations of these brutal assaults are detailed in a 63-page lawsuit filed in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday. He is named alongside Stephanie Shon, Jennifer Powers,  and lawyer Yifat Schnur in the lawsuit.

Rubin is notorious as a Wall Street trader with a career spanning some 30 years and blamed for incurring some $377 million in historic losses at Merrill Lynch in 1987. Those losses came about due to a series of unauthorized trades which cost the company some $250 million. The figure was later reported by The New York Times to be as high as $377  million. As a result, he was fired but he was never prosecuted criminally. Despite all of that, he moved on to be appointed Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns and from there went to work for Soros. He is married to Mary Henry, a former classmate at Harvard Business School and has been since the 1980s.  The couple has 3 children – 2 daughters and a son.

The lawsuit details four separate incidents all occurring in 2016. Rubin’s associates Stephanie Shon and Jennifer Powers offered the women thousands of dollars and free flights to New York under the guise of photo shoots and “companionship” with Rubin. Powers is a former model herself who also claims to have slept with Rubin prior to coming to work for him.

Once the women were in NYC, they detail how they each took a cab to the penthouse from the airport and were met by Rubin’s employees.  They were then forced to sign non-disclosure agreements prior to meeting Rubin. Each detail a similar account of being taken to a nearby bar for dinner and drinks, then returning to Rubin’s penthouse.  Once at the penthouse, each tells a similar story of being drugged, beaten, and then raped before Rubin left “to go home to his wife and kids” on the Upper East Side.

All three women were beaten so severely they required extensive medical treatment, as well as cosmetic and dental repairs which Rubin’s associates paid for and offered more cash in exchange for silence. One of the women was beaten so badly her breast implant is said to have “flipped” which Rubin paid some $20,000 to have repaired.

Rubin and his associates are also accused of attempting to intimidate the victims after they engaged counsel and according to the complaint, they attempted to tamper with witnesses and even hacked into a computer system in an effort to destroy evidence. Rubin has not yet responded to the allegations in the lawsuit.

Jeremy Saland of Crotty Saland PC is another attorney as part of the legal team representing the victims, and he stated of Rubin and the lawsuit –

“While arrogance and self-import may convince certain men otherwise, neither money nor power gives any person the right to victimize a woman. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that victims’ voices are heard, and that abusers’ positions of privilege do not exempt them from the grasp of justice.”
