The Bexar County Sheriff’s Department has been on the scene clearing buildings and has kept people updated through their Twitter feed:

Nearby Valley High Elementary School is currently on lockdown, as well.

UPDATE [04/08/2016, 11:20 a.m. EST] — Multiple sources are now reporting that the motive behind the shooting appears to be a murder-suicide. Local ABC affiliate KSAT notes that the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department believes “the shooter is accounted for.”

UPDATE [04/08/2016, 11:45 a.m. EST] — The Associated Press reports:

It’s believed the shooter is among the two dead, Keith said, adding that sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement officers are continuing to search the building and nearby facilities.

Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland is the home of Air Force basic training. The Army’s Fort Sam Houston and Lackland Air Force Base were combined during base realignment several years ago to become the military’s largest joint base.
