A secretary of state has revealed numerous attempts to hack into the state’s networks, and it wasn’t the Russians doing so.

In fact, if it were the Russians we’d probably be better off since at least we know they’re our adversaries. But instead, according to Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, it was our own government doing it, and now he’s looking for help from President-elect Trump to get to the bottom of the matter.

Kemp said that there’s evidence of at least ten separate attempts to breech his systems in the past ten months, and all of the attacks originated in the same place – Obama’s Department of Homeland Security.

WSB-TV has more:

The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office now confirms 10 separate cyberattacks on its network were all traced back to U.S. Department of Homeland Security addresses.

In an exclusive interview, a visibly frustrated Secretary of State Brian Kemp confirmed the attacks of different levels on his agency’s network over the last 10 months. He says they all traced back to DHS internet provider addresses.

“We’re being told something that they think they have it figured out, yet nobody’s really showed us how this happened,” Kemp said. “We need to know.”

Kemp told Channel 2’s Aaron Diamant his office’s cybersecurity vendor discovered the additional so-called vulnerability scans to his network’s firewall after a massive mid-November cyberattack triggered an internal investigation.

Lovely, eh?

Perhaps more troubling that the attacks themselves is the excuse given to Kemp from the DHS.

“Since contacting DHS with these concerns, we have collaborated with the agency and provided extensive, additional information,” Kemp wrote, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. “Last night I received a letter from Secretary Johnson which lacked any specific information as to the attacks’ intent or origin despite the fact that many questions remain unanswered.”

Kemp said the DHS told him that an employee was legitimately using the databases on the Secretary of State’s website, but due to improper configuration it made them appear as a hacker. Johnson blamed Microsoft for the error, but Kemp said that Microsoft wouldn’t verify it was their software that caused the problem, so now Kemp is asking Trump to look into the matter when he takes office in January.

So while the Democrats keep repeating the lie that the Russians hacked our elections in hopes that it eventually becomes the truth, the real threat of hacking is coming from our very own government.

The very best thing we could have ever done was vote the Democrats out of power. I would be willing to bet we’ll be learning of their illicit activities for years to come.
