A couple of weeks ago, Papa John’s pizza made headlines when it decried the National Football League’s handling of National Anthem protests, but now the company is singing an entirely different tune.

In a statement regarding the protests, CEO John Schnatter said the league has “hurt” his business and that he’s “disappointed” in the NFL’s leadership for failing to resolve the matter. As a result, the company started pulling its ads from networks during NFL games to show its discontent with Roger Goodell and how he’s tackled the ongoing controversy.

ESPN reported:

“The NFL has hurt us,” company founder and CEO John Schnatter said. “We are disappointed the NFL and its leadership did not resolve this.”

Executives said the company has pulled much of its NFL television advertising and that the NFL has responded by giving the company additional future spots.

“Leadership starts at the top, and this is an example of poor leadership,” Schnatter said, noting he thought the issue had been “nipped in the bud” a year and a half ago.

At the time, social justice warriors had a fit that Papa John’s would dare criticize the snowflakes in the NFL or the fact the league was allowing them to disrespect our nation and its Anthem. However, that was then, and this is now, after severe backlash from the left and pressure from the league.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Papa John’s signaled its submission to the anti-American forces pressuring it to reverse course.

“The statements made on our earnings call were describing the factors that impact our business and we sincerely apologize to anyone that thought they were divisive. That definitely was not our intention. (1/3)”

“We believe in the right to protest inequality and support the players’ movement to create a new platform for change. We also believe together, as Americans, we should honor our anthem. There is a way to do both. (2/3)”

“We will work with the players and league to find a positive way forward. Open to ideas from all. Except neo-nazis — those guys. (3/3)”

Oddly enough, even though Papa John’s caved to the social justice warriors’ agenda, social justice warriors weren’t happy about the company’s new stance.

“Is this supposed to be Woke Papa John’s Pizza? I’m confused, because your CEO definitely blamed the NFL protests for poor sales and criticized the NFL’s leadership for not squelching the protests sooner.

I don’t see an apology for that.”

“We sincerely apologize that our true thoughts were made public”

“You don’t need to “work with” them. They want to protest. They don’t need your permission or to compromise to benefit you.”

“This is a bullshit non-apology. John Schnatter is a right-wing ideologue who is blaming the drop in profits on the black NFL players protesting police brutality. The real problem is that Papa John’s makes shitty pizza.”

You get the idea.

The worst part is their decision to reverse course isn’t going to sit well with conservatives either.

The moral of the story? If you take a stand, mean it and don’t back down. You’re never going to make liberals happy.
