A 19-year-old teen from Michigan was kidnapped and then viciously attacked while she was at the mall, but she’s the one who ended up in jail after police made a startling discovery.

It was on Dec. 3 when Alex Marie Bradish told a friend that as she was leaving the Lakes Mall, she was abducted and then brutally beaten by her captor, Mail Online reported. She then told her friend that she had to fight off her abductor, a middle-aged man, she said, to escape once they stopped at an E&A grocery store.

Concerned over Bradish’s safety, her friend alerted police to the horrifying incident, just as any good friend would do.

“The allegation she made is the worst nightmare – a horrific allegation,” Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat told MLive.com.

Naturally, the police immediately opened a criminal probe into the alleged incident, interviewing witnesses and scrolling through surveillance footage to find video of the truck she said she had been taken hostage in.

“After receiving the information about the alleged kidnapping, Fruitport police conducted a thorough investigation that included interviewing numerous witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from area businesses,” Maat said.

However, the further law enforcement delved into Bradish’s allegations, the more they began to realize the troubling reality. When police finally finished their investigation, they had found their suspect, but it wasn’t the man that Bradish had described as her abductor – it was Bradish herself.

On Jan. 22, Bradish was arraigned in the 60th U.S. District Court for the felony of reporting a false crime to police. Her initial examination is on Feb. 6 at 11:00 a.m., and if she’s convicted of the dubious deception, she’ll be facing a punishment of a maximum 7-year sentence in prison.

So far, there’s no information as to why she would have filed the false report. Perhaps it was for attention, who knows.

However, she’s about to receive an education on following law from the school of hard knocks. For her sake, let’s hope she learns from it.
