Sassy Liberty AMERICA’S FREEDOM FIGHTERS –

Police believe a device found inside Happy State Bank at 19th and Quaker was a pipe bomb. It was called in around 3 p.m., just 30 minutes after a bomb threat and a suspicious package was found in a parking lot of Texas Tech University.

A suspicious package was originally found near Talkington Hall’s parking lot causing the Lubbock Police Department to evacuate the dorm.  Authorities and school officials are still asking that everyone avoid the area to allow the bomb squad to continue in their investigations. According to a TTU Emergency Alert phone call, evacuation of all buildings is not necessary.

The alert from TTU Emergency Alert reads as follows –

According to local news affiliate KCBD, in addition to the ongoing issue currently under investigation at Talkington Hall, there has been a second suspicious package found inside Happy State Bank at 19th and Quaker.  That package is believed to be a pipe bomb currently.  This has also forced the evacuation of the Happy State Bank as well as CovenantHealth clinic, Tide Dry Cleaners and La Madeline Bakery.

According to LPD officials, the Happy State Bank was also robbed today.  However, it is currently unknown if the pipe bomb is a part of that earlier robbery or if it is a distinct and separate individual.

It was just after noon when a man came into Happy State Bank on 34th and Bell. When he reached the teller he had a bag in his hand and demanded money. The robber is described as a black male in his mid 20’s about 5’7″ in height with a slim build.

He was wearing a white checkered button-down shirt with dark sunglasses. He walked into the bank with a black revolver and a bag.

Police say the suspect may be driving around in a red car but they can not confirm that information at this time.

It is believed that there is a connection between the situation at Happy State Bank and the suspicious package found at Texas Tech University but it has not been officially confirmed. Emails have gone out to students advising that updates will continue to be forthcoming as the information becomes available.

As of 4:40 p.m. CST Monday, Texas Tech officials in conjunction with the bomb squad, FBI, and ATF report the suspicious package and potential detonation device had been placed in a containment pod and removed from the campus. TTU reported the area surrounding Talkington Hall was still being searched for a male suspect believed to be a person of interest in both matters.

The FBI is investigating.

This is a developing story-stay tuned.
