President Obama said during a speech in Maryland: “This is real simple. It’s a website where you can compare and purchase affordable health insurance plans side by side the same way you shop for a plane ticket on Kayak, same way you shop for a TV on Amazon. You just go on, and you start looking, and here are all the options.”In the wake of this mess, President Obama is now pushing for reform of the way the federal government procures technology, including appointing 16 highly empowered CIOs at the federal agency level. This new bill, called “The Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act,” or FITARA for short, is supposed to augment the 1,800-page existing Federal Acquisition Rules (FAR). The fact remains that roughly 94 percent of government IT projects are either late, above budget, scrapped — or a combination of all three, according to research firm The Standish Group. And a whopping 41.4 percent end in complete failure and are scrapped. Why would we have expected anything better from a system as complex as healthcare.gov? As taxpayers and business owners, we must demand and provide the right leadership and embrace current best practices, including “Lean Startup” philosophies of failing early and fast in order to learn and improve even faster. So basically Obamacare is nothing but a complete disaster and needs to be tossed in the trashcan-it just will not work….period!
