Toy guns and air soft rifles have a bright orange tip on the ends to show that they are not real firearms nowadays and that makes sense.

But the orange tip is easily removed and a lot of people remove them so they look more realistic- that doesn’t make sense- especially when you point the gun at police officers.

This guy found out the hard way that he should have left the orange tip intact.

PARENTS- DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN ALTER THEIR TOY GUNS!

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) in Southeast Division.

On September 17, 2022, around 1:20 p.m., Southeast Division patrol officers responded to a radio call of a family dispute at a residence in the 400 block of West 102nd Street.

As the officers approached the residence, a man, later identified as 19-year-old Luis Herrera, came out the front door holding what appeared to be a black rifle.

The officers gave Herrera commands to drop the rifle, however, Herrera did not comply.

Herrera shouldered the rifle and pointed it at the officers, resulting in an OIS (Officer Involved Shooting). Herrera was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced Herrera deceased.

No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.

It was later determined the rifle Herrera was holding during the OIS was an airsoft gun.

LAPD’s specialized Force Investigation Division responded to the scene and are investigating this Officer-Involved Shooting.

While this is an extremely sad and unfortunate incident it could very well have been prevented.

We will never know why this young man would take on the police who were simply doing their job with a toy gun.

He wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.

Again, times are different than they were when we were kids.

Toy guns were fun and shot caps, bb’s and darts.

No one in their right mind would confront police with a toy gun.

But as you see in the video it looked real.

So parents, I have some advice.

Do not remove these bright orange tips and do not allow them to point them at police officers or thugs for that matter.

It could be a matter of life and death.

In this case unfortunately it was death.

Our hearts go out to his relatives but he made a terrible decision.
