Yesterday, AFF covered some of the inconsistencies of Senator Harry Reid (D-NV). Today we will explore some of his relationship with Billionaire Tom Steyer, who has put millions toward his climate agenda. Unlike the Koch Brothers, the money has only been spent on one political party.

Ethics complaint from the Tea Party Patriots

Here, via Scribd, is some of the well-researched ethics complaint filed against Reid by the Tea Party Patriots.

Senator Reid’s false charges that the Kochs are “trying to buy America” are  particularly ironic in light of his rampant abuse of taxpayer resources to dole out favors for Democrat mega-donors. On May 20, 2014, he held a fundraiser for People for the American Way (along with Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi), at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. At this event, Senator Reid and Congresswoman Pelosi showed clips from the video “Koch Brothers Exposed: 2014 Edition” (directed by Robert Greenwald) and criticized the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Citizens United v. FEC , 558 U.S. 310 (2010), a ruling that robustly  protects political speech. The online flier for the event — issued by People for the American Way —had a “Donate” button on it. See Appendix. At the event, Senator Reid stated, “I’m very happy that there are people out there willing to spend some money to focus on things like [the Keystone XL pipeline]”— an energy project with which Senator Reid has falsely associated the Kochs. Senator Reid specifically lauded the financial support of Tom Steyer, a Democrat billionaire and environmental activist, who opposes the Keystone Pipeline and has pledged to spend one hundred million dollars ($100,000,000.00) in the 2014 elections supporting Democrats who mak e “climate change” a top campaign issue.

Senator Reid’s comments praising Tom Steyer at the Capitol Visitor Center are but another example of the suspiciously close relationships between billionaire donors and Senator Reid, the Democratic Party, and Democrat Senate candidates. Indeed, it appears that Senator Reid has provided political favors to Steyer on more than one occasion in exchange for Steyer’s financial largesse to Democrats. Senator Reid headlined a fundraising event at Steyer ’s mansion on February 19, 2014, (the day after Steyer’s announced intention to spend $100 million “independently” of the Democratic party). The event in Steyer’s home— at which a number of environmental groups were present — raised $400,000 for the DSCC, and ended in Steyer and his attendees pushing Reid to act on environmental issues. Within a matter of a few weeks, Senator Reid did exactly that: as Majority Leader, he kicked off a nearly 15-hour climate change talk-a-thon on the Senate floor, with about 30 Senate Democrats participating.

Tom Steyer applauded these efforts via the social media platform, Twitter. A few weeks after that, Senator Reid and Senate Democrats killed a bipartisan energy efficiency  bill; Steyer immediately donated $5 million to Senate Majority PAC, the pro-Democrat super PAC run by former aides of Senator Reid. That donation represents the largest donation the PAC has received to date.

Here, via E&E News, is what Reid has to say about Tom Steyer.

Such GOP comparisons between the Kochs and Steyer, Reid told E&E Daily, bolster his push for a constitutional amendment limiting money in politics “so we don’t have to choose which billionaire we like the most.”

Nonetheless, the Nevadan added, “I’m very happy that there are people out there willing to spend some money to focus on things like” KXL and climate change. “We need people like Tom Steyer.”

Steyer’s advisers today plan to brief reporters on the scope of a long-planned bid to elevate climate change in the midterm elections that could reach $100 million at both the congressional and gubernatorial levels.

Politics is nasty and there is corruption on both sides. We need to know them all and take them out. Tomorrow, we will cover more on Senator Harry Reid.
