A Baltimore teacher who had been missing for two weeks has been found dead in his car, according to several reports.

Baltimore police are investigating the death of Gregory Ferrell, 56, an eighth-grade teacher who disappeared Dec. 29. His body was found Saturday afternoon. His car was parked on a West Baltimore street.

Baltimore police announced Ferrell’s death in a statement on Facebook. They had said the disappearance was out of character for Ferrell.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Ferrell taught eighth-grade students at Monarch Academy in northeast Baltimore, Fox 45 Baltimore reported.

The public charter school said Ferrell was a “respected and very popular teacher.”

He was last seen at a Baltimore club called Melba’s, according to police.

The police weren’t saying how long Ferrell had been dead or how long his vehicle had been parked in the spot where his body was found, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Police said the vehicle had tinted windows, according to the paper.

Ferrell is a teacher at northeast Baltimore’s Monarch Academy.

In a letter sent to the Monarch Academy community, school officials wrote: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Gregory Ferrell’s family during this difficult time. Mr. Ferrell is a respected and very popular teacher and we are all saddened by his disappearance.”

“We have made arrangements to cover his responsibilities and have supports in place at the school for the children. We are in touch with both the police and the family and will keep our school population informed of developments,” the letter continued.
