On Friday afternoon Attorney General Jeff Sessions requested the resignations of 46 federal prosecutors appointed by  Obama to submit their resignations. There are 93 U.S. attorneys in total, and the Department of Justice asked the remaining prosecutors appointed by Obama to resign.

Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said in a statement –

As was the case in prior transitions, many of the United States attorneys nominated by the previous administration already have left the Department of Justice. The Attorney General has now asked the remaining 46 presidentially appointed U.S. attorneys to tender their resignations in order to ensure a uniform transition.

All but one attorney cooperated with the request.

Donald Trump got to say one of his favorite phrases to U.S. attorney Preet Bharara: “You’re fired!”

Bharara hails from the Southern District of New York and has served as attorney for the Southern District of New York since 2009. His now former district included the Bronx, Westchester, Manhattan and some counties north of New York City. Manhattan is where Trump Tower is located.

The Daily Beast reported on Friday:

“Since receiving the letter demanding his resignation Friday afternoon, Bharara has yet to speak to the press or to his full office. Friday evening, the law enforcement official said, Bharara told his section chiefs that he’d yet to submit the requested letter and may instead challenge Sessions to fire him.”

According to CNN, Acting Deputy Attorney General Dana Boente informed Bharara of his firing.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he was deeply  “troubled” by the Trump administration and its request that Bharara and other U.S. attorneys tender their resignations.

Schumer said in a statement –

While it’s true that presidents from both parties made their own choices for U.S. Attorney positions across the country, they have always done so in an orderly fashion that doesn’t put ongoing investigations at risk. They ask for letters of resignation but the attorneys are allowed to stay on the job until their successor is confirmed.”

One wonders if Bharara will be lauded as the leftist hero and awarded a participation trophy much as Sally Yates was when she demonstrated gross insubordination in defiance of orders from her superiors and was subsequently fired as a result.

God Bless.
