President Trump has offered former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman the job of U.S. ambassador to Russia. Huntsman has accepted the offer.

Huntsman has been a U.S. ambassador twice before, in Singapore (1992-1993) under presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton and China (2009-2011) under Barack Hussein Obama.

Back in the summer of 2011, Huntsman entered the race for the Republican presidential nomination but he dropped out of the race in January of 2012.

Huntsman originally endorsed Donald Trump for President but withdrew his endorsement in October after the release of a 2004 Access Hollywood video where Trump made some raw comments about women- locker room talk basically.

Huntsman actually called on Trump to drop out of the race- Trump didn’t budge!

As we’ve seen many times, Trump forgave Huntsman’s verbal attacks just like he did with Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and others.

Western Journalism’s Randy DeSoto reports that Huntsman currently serves as head of the Atlantic Council think tank, which is dedicated to strengthening ties between the United States and Europe.

“Responding to reports of Huntsman’s selection, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov says the Kremlin would welcome any U.S. ambassador who wants to create a dialogue with Russia,” NPR reported.

Huntsman was among the names being floated by the Trump transition team in January as a possible choice for secretary of state, before Trump decided on Rex Tillerson.

Given the current tensions between the United States and Russia, the ambassadorship promises to be among the most strategic and high profile.

The senate approved Huntsman to be ambassador to China unanimously in 2009, and an easy confirmation to his new post is expected.
