Early last Wednesday morning, hours after President-elect Donald Trump won the 2016 election, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations’s LA branch tweeted in support of overthrowing the U.S. government.

“Ok, repeat after me: Al-Shaab yureed isqat al-nizaam (Arab Spring chant),” Hussam Ayloush tweeted at 12:16 AM.

According to Daniel Pipes, president of the Middle East Forum, “Al-Shaab yureed isqat al-nizaam” translates to “The people wants to bring down the regime.”

And as reported by Sean Hannity, “(t)he slogan was first used during the Tunisian Revolution which kicked off the Arab Spring. It was also used frequently during the Egyptian revolution in which the regime of Hosni Mubarak was overthrown.”

When called out about the tweet, Ayloush reportedly tried to claim that it had been meant as nothing more than a joke.

Here’s the problem: There was nothing remotely humorous about Ayloush’s radicalism, as pointed out by Daniel Pipes:

Ayloush may be the most vicious of the CAIR leaders. So far as I know, for example, he’s the only one of them to bandy about the term “Zionazi” …

The dawning of Donald Trump’s victory was apparently a trying moment for Ayloush, so he let loose with an emotion he’d normally have kept under wraps. In other words, he offered a rare, candid insight into the mind of one CAIR apparatchik.

According to The Daily Caller, CAIR’s top director, Nihad Awad, also made a statement about Trump’s victory:

Regardless of who won or lost yesterday’s election, American Muslims are here to stay. We are not going anywhere, and will not be intimidated or marginalized. God willing, the American Muslim community will continue to mobilize to challenge bigotry, to uphold justice and to protect the freedoms and rights of all Americans. American Muslims will also increase outreach to their fellow citizens of other faiths and backgrounds to build bridges of mutual understanding and cooperation.

We will hold the new president to the highest standard in defending the rights of all those residing in our nation, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

What I fail to understand is why these two moonbats did not just say, “Congratulations, Mr. Trump.” Why did they feel it necessary to “joke” about overthrowing the government or remark about fighting back against alleged bigotry?

I mean, geez, get a grip!
