Tired Of Being Left With The Bill, Trump Tells Europe To Pay Up!

Recently, we reported that President Trump and Chancellor of Germany met to discuss bilateral coordination between their two countries.  

What we didn’t know at the time of our original reporting was the particular details discussed between the two parties–we know some of it now.  

According to numerous outlets, Mr. Trump handed Chancellor Merkel a $300 billion invoice for unpaid dues related to the NATO alliance.

Figures from both Germany and NATO have seemingly confirmed the invoice but refused to quantify the costs levied against the German regime.  

In 2014, NATO allies pledged to spend at least 2% of their GDP on defense spending but only a few countries like the UK, Greece, Estonia and Poland have followed through on the promise.

It’s Not Like Germany Can’t Pay

Look, its one thing if your country is in ashes and your so-called friend shows up knocking with a bill in hand.

That’s not what is happening here.

Germany has made the idiotic decision to subsidize the living expenses of millions of migrants (many of which are males of fighting age) rather than pay for their own military or pay us for protection.

That’s not justice. That’s not fair. There’s no amount of hamster wheeling or reality bending that can make sense of such madness.

By Asking For Payment, Trump Follows Through With Another Promise

During his campaign, the president promised to make right the unfair and disproportionate responsibilities the United States has had to shoulder under the alliance with its European partners.

According to the UK’s Independent:

Estimates suggest the total came to £300bn, with official figures citing the shortfall to be around £250bn plus £50bn in interest added on.  
The Times quoted a German government minister as saying the move was “outrageous”.
The unnamed minister said: “The concept behind putting out such demands is to intimidate the other side, but the Chancellor took it calmly and will not respond to such provocations.”

Well, apparently this unnamed minister thinks he has Mr. Trump all figured out. A lot of liberals in the United States thought so too.  We all know how well that went!

If the president is able to make good on his promise to hold NATO allies accountable that would be one more box on his agenda that gets filled with a check mark. Let’s hope!
