Donald Trump, who made history with his victory in Tuesday’s presidential election, received one of his first salutes from American workers Thursday as he took his first trip as president-elect. Trump left his home in New York to meet Barack Obama at the White House starting the whirlwind transition that will unfold over the next 10 weeks until Trump is sworn into office Jan. 20.

at Mediaite reports that with the Fox News cameras rolling live via helicopter (something that the showman Trump himself undoubtedly knew full well was happening), the signature Trump plane took its time to taxi around Laguardia airport in New York City before takeoff. Laguardia employees at one point lined the runway, waving their support to the President-elect, and Trump himself was treated to an honorary water salute.

Water salutes are often used in aviation as a means to recognizing a highly distinguished individual, event, or aircraft. The event is marked by a pair of firetrucks that spout off water canons on either side of an aircraft; today’s event at Laguardia was in honor of Trump’s stunning and historic presidential upset.

Fox embed Dan Gallo identified that the water salute came from the Port Authority Police Department.

FOX reports that President Obama met with Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday — calling the meeting “excellent” and saying his number one priority was to help facilitate a peaceful transition of power in January.

Trump, who said he looks forward to dealing with Obama in the future, called the meeting a “great honor” and said he looked forward to talking with Obama “many, many more times.”

“I could have gone a lot longer,” Trump told reporters of the 90-minute meeting. “We discussed a lot of different situations – some wonderful and some difficulties.”

It was the first time the president and the president-elect have met face-to-face.

Many anticipated an awkward first meeting between the two. Trump was behind the “birther” controversy where he questioned the citizenship of Obama. Trump also ran on a platform that included repealing and replacing Obama’s signature health care law – the Affordable Care Act – and has said he would reverse many of Obama’s trade deals.

Obama, though, said after their sit-down it’s important to “come together” to face common challenges.
