UC Berkeley Just Got BAD NEWS After Slamming Ann Coulter- LOOK What’s Happening

In the last year UC Berkeley has demonstrated it is a place of oppression, not at all the birthplace of free speech they would have you believe.

Harmeet Dhillon, who represents the Berkeley College Republicans, said in letters sent Friday to UC Berkeley’s Interim Vice Chancellor Stephen Sutton and chief attorney Christopher Patti that if Coulter is not allowed to give a speech on campus on April 27 she will file a lawsuit in federal court because the university is violating the students’ constitutional right to free speech, Fox News reports.

Dhillon writes –

It is a sad day indeed when the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement, is morphing before our eyes into the cemetery of free speech on college campuses.”

The university is claiming that they are “unable” to locate a safe venue or time for her to speak next week.

Keep in mind that UC Berkeley is a publicly funded university.  It is the FIRST university to impose a series of ridiculous requirements on a speech such as Coulter’s allegedly in the name of so-called “safety.” Yet, EVERY SINGLE REQUIREMENT Coulter agreed too.

Coulter was required to deliver her speech in the afternoon, only students would be allowed to attend, the speech location would not be announced until closer to the event.  Yet, AGAINST ADVICE, Coulter agreed to all these requirements. In return, she requested two measures, which actually had something to do with ACTUAL safety –

She requested –

1) That the University of California chancellor request that the Oakland chief of police refrain from telling his men to stand down and ignore law-breaking by rioters attempting to shut down conservative speakers, as he has done in the past.

2) That UC-Berkeley would announce in advance that any students engaging in violence, mayhem or heckling to prevent an invited speaker from speaking would be expelled.

Rather than even giving the appearance of accommodating any of these things, or even trying, the school funded via US taxpayers chose to cancel the event, claiming it was due to security concerns.  Security concerns that THEY created no less.

School officials told the Berkeley College Republicans on Tuesday and the nonpartisan Bridge USA which coordinated the event, that it was being canceled due to security concerns.

Chancellor Nicholas B. Dirks said that police have “very specific intelligence regarding threats that could pose a grave danger to the speaker,” her audience and protesters if the event goes ahead next Thursday.

School officials claim to have offered an “alternative” with the hosting of an afternoon event on May 2 when they say they can offer an “appropriate, protectable venue.

Coulter has rejected this offer for two reasons –

  1. She is not available on this date
  2. There are NO CLASSES at Berkeley the week of May 2 — this is the period is known as Dead Week, when students are studying for final exams.

I personally am not the biggest fan of Ann Coulter but the woman makes VERY valid points.  She stated in her interview on  “Hannity” on Thursday night –

“You cannot impose arbitrary and harassing restrictions on the exercise of a constitutional right. None of this has to do with security.”

Berkeley has been the site of clashes between far-right and far-left protesters, most recently at a rally last weekend called in support of President Donald Trump in downtown Berkeley.

God Bless.
