A man is accused of killing a UPS driver he claims was President-elect Donald Trump in upstate New York.  38-year-old Justin Barkley said during his arraignment on Monday in Ithaca, New York, “I shot and killed Donald Trump purposely, intentionally, and very proudly.”  He also went on to say there’s no evidence that could be presented to him to make him believe he did not murder the President-elect.
The victim was actually William Schumacher, a driver for UPS.  He was shot and killed on December 8, 2016, in a Wal-mart parking lot.  During the arraignment hearing, Barkley stated to the court that he knew where Trump would be the day of the murder and he intentionally lay in wait for him in the Ithaca Wal-mart parking lot to murder him.

“I went there to purposely shoot and kill him and put him down,” Barkley said.  The case has received some local covered in New York itself, but very little national media attention.  This was noted by Conservative radio talk show host, Rush Limbaugh.  Limbaugh made comments to the effect that the case would likely be a headlining story for weeks on end if someone had shot a woman and believed her to be the Democratic Party presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton.  Instead, since it was the Republican Party presidential nominee and winner of the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump that was singled out?  Well, no big deal according to the leftist mainstream media!

Limbaugh explained: “If this were Hillary Clinton if there were some lunatic out there that had shot a woman and claimed that he was shooting Hillary Clinton, do you think the media all over America would be talking about it? And then condemning any and all supporters of Trump and Trump himself for the incendiary rhetoric that he’s engaged in and has inspired this violence. Because remember when Rep. Gabby Giffords got shot out there in Arizona, they tried to blame me and Sarah Palin. … Can you imagine the uproar? Can you imagine the wall-to-wall coverage?”

Hillary Clinton

Limbaugh also speculated about the circumstances in the Barkley case and what this man hoped to accomplish by murdering President-elect Trump.

Why did this guy want to kill Trump? Why did this guy think that he was killing Trump? What could have happened to make him so hateful toward Donald Trump? Might it be the Drive-By Media and the Democratic Party? Could they maybe be held somewhat accountable here for their never-ending, constant vilifying of Trump?”

According to the Ithaca Voice –

Barkley told the court he understood the difference between mistaking a person for being Trump and asserting that he actually killed Trump. When asked if any evidence could be presented to him to suggest he killed a different person, he said, “I would hope not.”

Barkley, who is being represented by attorney James Baker, attempted to plead guilty to the charges against him  Monday afternoon. Before being sworn in for the guilty plea, he declined to further consider a not guilty plea by reason of mental disease or defect.

But after making his statements about Donald Trump, a short recess was called where attorneys met in private with Judge John Rowley.

When they returned, Rowley said he was initially prepared to accept Barkley’s plea, but the man’s statements gave him pause.

“I hadn’t been concerned until we got to the oath,” Rowley said.

He asked Barkley if it would be possible for the defendant to plead guilty and confess that he mistook Schumacher for Trump.

“I would not agree to that your honor,” Barkley said, noting that he has never met a man named William Schumacher before.

“I am not going to accept your guilty plea,” Rowley said, though he noted he does not intend to unnecessarily prolong the prosecution of Barkley.

Victim William Schumacher’s family was seated behind Barkley during the arraignment and shook and cried as Barkley described his grizzly and heinous crimes with seemingly no remorse. Court documents show Barkley’s actions on December 8th sparked a nearly eight-hour standoff with police which ended with no further injuries when he turned himself into police. He admitted to shooting and killing a person and firing a “sound shot” at police officers attempting to take him into custody.

Assistant District Attorney Eliza Filipowski has requested a mental examination of the defendant to see if he’s competent to stand trial.

Barkley is charged with felony counts of second-degree murder and menacing a police officer or peace officer, and he faces a maximum penalty of 25 years to life in prison. His next scheduled court is appearance is at 2 p.m. on Jan. 6.
