When Alabama police officer William Stacy got a call about a grandmother stealing eggs, he surprised her with an amazing act of kindness.

Officer Stacy and Helen Johnson joined Clayton Morris on “Fox and Friends Weekend” this morning to discuss their feel-good story that has gone viral.

Stacy explained that after receiving the shoplifter call, he made contact with Johnson in the store parking lot, and she told him that she needed the eggs to feed two hungry children.

“I felt like I needed to do more than just leave it alone, so I went in the store and bought the eggs for her and gave them to her,” Stacy said.

Johnson revealed that when Stacy first approached her, she was afraid that she was going to jail.

“As it turned out, he was just one of God’s angels,” she said. “He came to my rescue and he helped me and my family.”

Stacy said he truly believed that she was in desperate circumstances and he felt that this was the best course of action.

“It wasn’t about shoplifting,” he said. “It was about the kids, and the kids needed food. You can’t let kids go hungry. It’s not their fault.”

Stacy didn’t stop there. He brought more groceries to Johnson’s house, donated by many generous people in an amazing outpouring of support for Johnson and her family.

“I thought that I had to be the most blessed person in the world, to have these people to look after me,” she said. “Not just to protect me, but to look after me. And to make sure my family was fed. I just felt overjoyed.”

Stacy said he’s happy to shed a different light on police officers, who have had their share of negative attention recently.

“We do have heart and we do care about the public … We’re here to protect and serve. That’s what we do.”
