Respecting your elders took on a whole new meaning in West Virginia on Christmas Eve, where a grandmother showed a home intruder a thing or two about what it means to protect your home.

Feel-good stories are often hard to come by, but what happened to Yvonne “Bonnie” Gatens Dec. 24 is one that will leave a warm and fuzzy feeling in your heart while striking fear into those who would ever try to do her harm. WSAZ reports that she’s one badass grandma, and she wasn’t about to let a home intruder harm her or take anything from her home. Period.

Bonnie was at home asleep on the night before Christmas, when she heard a clatter outside of her room. Unafraid, she did what any gun-toting granny would do – called police and grabbed her pistol to confront the would-be intruder.

It was then that total hilarity ensued.

“I come up right here, real quietly (and said) ‘get ready to die,’ and he went this side, he just fell over,” Gatens recalls, laughing.

Bonnie said that the man was so scared as he fled her home, he fell flat on his face in her yard.

When asked, Bonnie insisted that the gun was cocked, loaded, and she was ready to put a bullet between the man’s eyes.

“Right at the foot of my bed? I mean, give me a break,” she said. “If you come in here, it’s going to be you or me, and I’ll see to it that it won’t be me!”

Sheriff’s eventually responded to the call, but they weren’t able to find the would-be intruder. Thankfully, this is one granny that can hold her own.
