A community in Granville County, West Virginia, continues to be stunned after a beloved elderly couple was murdered and their bodies were found in the back of a truck. Eric Alexander Campbell, 21, Edward Campbell, 54 are under arrest without bond and are being held at the Southern Regional Jail, the West Virginia authorities said. The father and son duo are from Alvin, Texas.

WNCN reports that the victims, Jerome Faulkner, 73, and his wife Dora Faulkner, 62, were at their home near the Oak Hill area when the two men entered around 7 a.m., Granville County Sheriff Brindell B. Wilkins Jr. said. The men are believed to have set the fire and then stole their red Chevrolet truck. There were no apparent link between the Campbell’s and the Faulkner’s.

The Faulkner’s were members of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and well known by the people. Jerome was a deacon in the church and Dora worked as a nurse at Central Regional Hospital in Butner.

The stunning spree came to a head Friday outside Lewisburg, West Virginia, when two local police officers noticed a white Chevrolet SUV with North Carolina plates that had been reported stolen. When officers attempted to pull the car over, a red Chevy pickup stopped nearby, according to West Virginia state police. The driver of the Chevy pickup opened fire on two officers, hitting them both. The officers were identified as Lt. Jeromy Dove and Patrolman Nicholas Sams. Dove and Sams returned fire, injuring Edward Campbell.

Dove, Sams and the shooter were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Dove and Sams were hit with shrapnel and possible grazing bullets. The driver of the SUV left the scene, but later turned himself in to law enforcement..

The bodies of the Faulkners were found in the red Chevy. Wilkins said he didn’t know if the couple was killed in the initial attack or sometime later.

Both men are being arrested for malicious assault and attempted murder of a police officer in Greenbrier County.

As this investigation continues, we will have more updates. For the families that have been affected by this tragedy, our thoughts and prayers be with them in hope they find peace.
