Terrifying news is coming out of Texas, where a mass shooting has left two dead and several others injured.

Details on the incident are slim, but the shooting apparently took place outside of a dance studio in Fort Worth, according to MailOnline. In all, six people were shot and two died at the scene after gunfire erupted in the early morning hours on Saturday, police said.

The disturbance began inside the studio, in the 2400 block of E. Lancaster Avenue, shortly after midnight and spilled out into the street, WFAA reports.

Six people were shot, according to the news station, including the two people who died.

The owner of the studio says a group of people were having a party on the property, but they weren’t authorized to be there.

Laura Reyna, the owner and artistic director at Studio 74, told the Associated Press that there was no contract for the group to be at the studio at all on Friday night and that she considers it trespassing.

Jason Moore was working at the studio when gunfire erupted outside.

Moore says he tried to resuscitate one of the victims, but he was shot in the lungs and died at the scene.

Apparently, Moore thought that the group had permission to be there and didn’t think anything of it. But according to Reyna, he was wrong, and she said the group was trespassing when the shooting occurred.

Studio 74 is located in a shady part of town and brings “dance programming to undeserved communities and the general public to reach audiences and participants of all ages, abilities, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds,” its website states. Due to the location of the studio and the crowd it serves, it’s not unreasonable to believe some sort of gang activity was involved in the murders.

Homicide detectives are now working to piece together what happened. There’s no suspects in the case, but hopefully investigators are able to find them fast and make arrests before anybody else gets hurt or killed.

With the renewed push for gun control this story highlights what the anti-gun crowd refuses to acknowledge – that the criminal elements are always going to get their hands on guns, regardless of whatever feel-good laws are implemented. Our best bet is to allow people to freely defend themselves, rather than turning them into defenseless victims, as most gun control proposals would end up doing.
